Case Study Part Two – Special Manufacturing Warehouse Licence Case Study:

A major South African winery, a key supplier to a large wine distributor, engaged our services to obtain a special Manufacturing warehouse licence from the South African Revenue Service (SARS). This license is essential for their on-site wine production and bottling. The application process proved, is complex and required meticulous attention to detail, as any error could have significant implications.

We are currently experiencing a delay due to a requirement from the South African Revenue Service (SARS). The client must personally visit the Excise offices in their area for registration to obtain a Customs Controlled Area (CCA) number. This is a necessary step as the client’s winery is located within a designated CCA, a critical component of SARS’s customs management framework.

A CCA is a secure, SARS-approved area where goods can be stored or processed without immediate payment of customs duties and taxes, specifically for manufacturing purposes. The primary function of a CCA is to streamline trade while ensuring adherence to customs regulations, thereby enabling businesses to manage inventory and operations efficiently. All activities within a CCA are subject to SARS regulations to facilitate the tracking and management of applicable duties and taxes.

The CCA number must be generated in person at the Excise office; therefore, we are awaiting the completion of this registration.

Upon the successful allocation of the CCA number, we will be able to proceed with the next stage of the warehousing registration process. We anticipate the completion of this step in due course.
