A major South African winery, a key supplier to a large wine distributor, engaged our services to obtain a special Manufacturing warehouse licence from the South African Revenue Service (SARS). This license is essential for their on-site wine production and bottling. The application process proved complex and required meticulous attention to detail, as any error could have significant implications.

Our initial investigation focused on navigating the intricacies of SARS regulations. The process commenced with securing import and export licences through Customs registration, a crucial first step in obtaining the necessary Customs codes. This was followed by the registration for customs-controlled area (CCA) number, another essential requirement for the special Manufacturing warehouse licence.

Subsequently, a SARS site visit was scheduled to assess the winery’s warehouse facilities and operational procedures. This on-site inspection involved a thorough review of the winery’s processes to ensure compliance with SARS regulations. This stage was particularly time-consuming, as it included an audit to verify the accuracy of our submitted documentation and the winery’s operational claims. The allocation of correct tariffs to each stage of the production process was also a critical aspect of this audit.

Furthermore, our role extended to ensuring the accurate classification of all tariffs related to each component of the wine production process, a detail-oriented task demanding extensive knowledge of SARS regulations.
